Important Announcement About USC Blog

When I started this blog 29 months ago, it was going to be more of a hobby after covering USC for more than 20 years.

I never imagined it would grow to its current size and attract such a loyal audience.

Well, now it’s time to grow even more. Today, I’m taking the InsideUSC blog to Sports Illustrated. The new address is https://www.si.com/college/usc/

The new USC blog will be the same in many ways but will have much more video, more recruiting and a stronger “community” area for comments. I hope you will join me at the new site for even more USC coverage.

Trump doesn’t know the magic “sensitive” words some people take for leadership —like Conan the Barbarian, he “doesn’t have the tongue for it.” But he’s leading the country through a crisis as ugly as any war while managing the economy brilliantly —- and, for that, the “sensitive” wordsmiths attack him 24/7.

The Teachers’ Unions fail to understand that the largest part of their lifetime security (lousy pay for a previously no-risk/no injury job, but a generous pension) comes from the annual performance of S&P500 run companies and the PERA fund managers who invest in these well-run, highly APOLITICAL firms.

The pension plans many, many Americans depend on are only as good as the stock market. [And it would be better for U. S. citizens in the long run if the health of their pension plans didn’t depend on pension managers investing in the Chinese military —there are better ways of making a buck]…..

  6. LMFAO!!!!

gotroll22 gets owned by the facts again!

OH MY SIDE HURTS FROM LAUGHING SO MUCH!

Poorest states have Republican legislatures, and richest have Democratic ones

USA TODAY published a breathtaking economic profile of all 50 states, ranked by household income. Embedded within it is arguably the greatest unseen political truth of our time.

Fathom it, and you will see how politics may unexpectedly affect economics and wealth for years to come.

Though income drives the rankings from poorest (West Virginia) to richest (Maryland), the list also includes population, unemployment and poverty rates. To unlock the political secret in these data points, cross-reference them with figures available from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) showing which party controls state legislatures.

What you see is exactly the reverse of our cultural mythology: Heading into midterms, Republicans are very much the party of the poor and Democrats are the party of the rich. This seemingly sounds nuts. It isn’t. Thirty-two states have Republican-controlled legislatures.

Eighteen of the 19 poorest states have legislatures where both chambers are Republican controlled. New Mexico (46th richest, fifth poorest) is Democratic. But there isn’t another blue or purple state until you get to purple Maine (31st richest, 20th poorest) with its “split” legislature of one party in each chamber. All the states in between (such as Tennessee and Florida) are Republican, both chambers. So is Michigan, where Republicans hold all high state offices (where Donald Trump won in 2016). Above New Mexico, you jump all the way to middle of the pack Vermont (27th richest, 24th poorest) to find a state with both legislative chambers held by Democrats.

More: Stock market warning flags: potential trouble spots to watch

More: Housing market slows as prices and rates rise, helping buyers in Denver, other cities

But all five richest states have both legislative chambers controlled by Democrats – Maryland, New Jersey, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Overall, Democrats dominate the 20 richest states.

Conventional wisdom has long proclaimed Republicans the party of the rich and Democrats the party of the poor! Forty years ago that was largely true. The poor almost everywhere elected Democrats. That is how most media portray it now.

But media are almost solely big-city based, where the conventional wisdom remains true. Democrats are the party of the urban poor – from Boston to Los Angeles. But at the grassroots level, overall, it isn’t so. Republicans, overall, own America’s low-to-no income vote. Media simply don’t report what they don’t live in and see.

Here in Colorado I get 40%+ of my daily abundant electricity from renewables and the remainder from very clean natural gas CO2 and water emitted).

With Jersey and Illinois and their debt, it is not a matter of “if” they default on their interest payments but “when.” Standard and Poor’s rates Jersey A- at best, with many state run programs (transportation) barely investment grade at BBB-. Their funding of public pensions is well below sustainable. So, sometime this decade the courts will have to decide if Jersey’s bondholders or pensioners get a (serious) haircut.

        I’m betting on both.

Illinois will never be able to pay it’s public employees their full, promised pension.

  8. The Case For Trump

I would say the case for Trump is that he is right about the existential threat to our existence that is Red China.

He is right about tariffs and their use to leverage our economic power to get concessions from our trade partners such as Mexico, Canada, and the EU (to say nothing of China), where those trade partners have taken advantage of us (with China’s help, particularly back door to NAFTA imports).

He is right to insist on America first in trade.

He is right to withdraw from our over-extended military commitments in Europe (especially with unreliable allies like Germany, that insist we bear a greater burden for their defense than we do).

He is right about getting out of the Middle East and did not take the bait in Syria, Iraq, or Iran.

His moving the embassy to Jerusalem, telling the Palistinians that WDGAF and then brokering peace treaties between Israel and UAE is probably the most useful thing the US has done in the Middle East since the Camp David Accords.

He is right about Supreme Court nominations.

He is right to build our military but use it sparingly.

I think the payroll protection plan and tax abeyance was a master stroke in disintermediation of the States and bureaucracies in getting aid to tax-paying Americans during this coronavirus debacle.

I think his handling of coronavirus has been as good as it could have been, given what we knew then and even what we know now.

I think letting the cities of Pacific NW and Chicago/NY self-destruct is the right decision, given the impeachment trap that is being presented (“Do something so we can impeach you for killing nice white kids who are protesting for social justice, or something!”).

I think rebuilding the stagnant economy with deregulation, tax cuts, and America first trade priorites (Main Street over Wall Street) has done more for the middle class and minorities than anything any Democrat in modern history has done.

He is right about stopping illegal immigration with the wall and trade agreements with Mexico.

    That is enough

Even if you don’t agree with every word of the above political manifesto, it is SO superior to what the dems are offering —- continued “peace keeping” in countries that want us out, more regulation of small business, more trade deals favoring China and Europe, more “re-imagining” the justice system in ways detrimental to public safety —-i. e., stuff which benefits a certain growingly powerful communist country…. which, by the way, is already eating our lunch…

    2. The Trump administration has gotten some things correct as noted above.

Heck, my Poli Sci professors at USC were complaining about how the NATO “allies” were not spending the required amount of GDP (we called in GNP back then) on their defense IN THE EARLY 1980’s! Never got better. These same “allies” were glibly buying Natural Gas and Oil from the teetering Soviet Union and blessing the Red Menace with sorely needed free world currency.

The shit show which surrounds the Oval Office on a daily basis has been downright embarrassing for a first-world power, and the way “the message” has been sent has not been effective. Larry Kudlow has done a pretty good job of laying out the Business and Economic message. State is getting better at staying on course with their talking points.
DOJ has been a true shit storm from day 1.

There are some real idiots out there that think you can actually trust Communist China and their business approach. Their Belt and Road initiative (BRI) is merely a new form of Neocolonialism which will ultimately rape and pillage the host countries of their resources. Most of the time the better paying jobs for the infrastructure with BRI go to PRC nationals and not the host country workers. Anyone who fights the PRC and their lifetime dictator is just OK with me.

‘She Has No Role’: Biden Condemns Ousted Women’s March Organizer Linda Sarsour after Her DNC Appearance

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden condemned the views of former Women’s March co-chair Linda Sarsour, who has been repeatedly accused of anti-Semitism, after she participated in a Democratic National Convention council meeting on Tuesday.

a person wearing a costume: Linda Sarsour speaks at the Women’s Convention in Detroit, Mich., in 2017.© Rebecca Cook/Reuters Linda Sarsour speaks at the Women’s Convention in Detroit, Mich., in 2017.
Sarsour, a Muslim activist who endorsed Biden after he announced Senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) as his running mate last week, spoke at the DNC’s “Muslim Delegates and Allies Assembly on Tuesday, sparking disapproval in light of her history of controversial comments on Jews and Israel.

“Sarsour is the one who stands with terrorists and bigots, including Louis Farrakhan. Sarsour shared a platform with and praised Rasmea Odeh – a Palestinian-Arab terrorist responsible for murdering Jewish students; praised an Arab kid holding rocks to throw at Israelis as ‘the definition of courage,’ and tweeted her support for the intifada – the knifing, bombing and shooting campaigns in which Palestinian-Arab terrorists murdered and maimed 12,000 Jews,” a Zionist Organization of America statement said in August 2019.

The march’s co-president Tamika Mallory, who was similarly ousted over anti-Semitic controversy, also spoke at the DNC at a virtual meeting of the Democratic Black Caucus on Monday.

Mallory attended an address by anti-Semitic nation of Islam leader Louis Farrkahn in 2018, during which Farrakhan labeled Jews “satanic” and called them his “enemy.” Mallory posted on social media after the event that Farrakhan was the “GOAT,” or greatest of all time. She later refused to denounce Farrakhan in January 2019, leading the DNC to drop its sponsorship of the Women’s March.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was arrested on charges of defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors through his “We Build the Wall” fundraising campaign.

Bannon and three others were indicted in a federal investigation in the Southern District of New York.

Prosecutors allege the four defrauded donors by raising “more than $25 million to build a wall along the southern border of the United States,” but some of that money was used for personal gain.

“Bannon and the other defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction,”

Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said in a statement. “While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage and Bannon, which they used to fund their lavish lifestyle. We thank the USPIS for their partnership in investigating this case, and we remain dedicated to rooting out and prosecuting fraud wherever we find it.”

    1. One: Bannon was aware of — and yet refused to follow — the strict “Clinton Foundation Guidelines”: Never, under any circumstances, take more than $150,000,000 a year outta foundation for personal use…
Two: On the other hand, if Bannon can show that, say, 90-95% of the dollars raised went to funding border (which records show he easily can), prosecutors will not be able to make the “substantial misrepresentation” element of their case.

      2. Conservative commentators (naively) keep saying that the dems will do anything to regain power. It’s all about power. That’s NOT it. The deep state is terrified that 4 more years of Trump will lead to the discovery of massive dem corruption, lies and treachery. [The funny part is they don’t have to be worried —the Justice Department is WAY too chicken shit to prosecute political crimes. Durham is an example of complete cowardice. He’s afraid he can’t beat Comey’s “irrational but good faith belief that he was doing the Lord’s work” defense].

      3. We are told the Justice Department can’t prosecute Democrats within 90 days of the election, but political prosecutions of former Trump associates are encouraged!

      4. Luckily for the dems they have prosecutors who don’t mind filing and then losing or dismissing shitty cases….. and the repubs have prosecutors who are scared to sign a complaint…..

    1. Trump is very hesitant to do what’s reasonably & humanely necessary to protect federal property —-he doesn’t want to be accused of the same crimes we accuse foreign leaders of when they protect their streets from mobs. So the pitifully ill equipped federal agents charged with protecting these buildings are really just cannon fodder…..

      1. This is what happens when the fourth (and “fifth”) estate run the country.*
The media has made it repressive to actually enforce the laws (to which the media disagree). There is plenty of good news here, however. They are trashing a city that no one (but for a rare, few Porltandiers) really cares much about.

  16. Outdoor dining in the One Party Pelosi-Newsom-Harris-Brown Democrat Paradise of San Francisco:

San Francisco dome dining has already returned, with some modifications. “The modifications ended up being quite simple: The bones of the domes are still intact, but the staff cut off the bottom 4 feet of the plastic cover — effectively creating a rounded tent that’s open on the sides. ‘It kind of defeats the main purpose of why we had it up in the beginning but it is doing it some justice. It’s better than nothing,’ said Hashiri manager Kenichiro Matsuura, noting the modified domes don’t adequately block the wind…The restaurant is located on Mint Plaza, a SoMa gathering place with many homeless encampments nearby, and Matsuura said people had stuck their fingers in diners’ meals, spit in their food and defecated next to tables. The structures were a way for the restaurant to control the dining environment.”

      1. Those additional bennies – people sticking their fingers in your food, defecating next to your table – that is why SF is the most expensive city to live in the country.
