Important Announcement About USC Blog

When I started this blog 29 months ago, it was going to be more of a hobby after covering USC for more than 20 years.

I never imagined it would grow to its current size and attract such a loyal audience.

Well, now it’s time to grow even more. Today, I’m taking the InsideUSC blog to Sports Illustrated. The new address is https://www.si.com/college/usc/

The new USC blog will be the same in many ways but will have much more video, more recruiting and a stronger “community” area for comments. I hope you will join me at the new site for even more USC coverage.

      3. I talked to someone in their 20s in the broadcasting field yesterday and they were saying one of their friends majored in Econ at Cal and now has an anchor job at a TV station in the Pacific NW…

      DOVER, Del. – Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War and later was disqualified from service because of asthma that he claimed he suffered as a teenager while he somehow was able to play high school football.

      Officials with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s campaign released Biden’s Selective Service records at the request of The Associated Press. Less detailed records were available from a National Archives facility in Philadelphia.

      According to the documents, Biden, 65, received several deferments while he was an undergraduate at the University of Delaware and later as a law student at Syracuse University. A month after a physical exam in April 1968, Biden received a Selective Service classification of 1-Y, meaning he was available for service only in the event of national emergency.

      “As a result of a physical exam on April 5, 1968, Joe Biden was classified 1-Y and disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager,” said David Wade, a campaign spokesman.

      In “Promises to Keep,” a memoir that was published last year, Biden never mentions his asthma, recounting an active childhood, work as a lifeguard and football exploits in high school.

      The Vet sure did more for America than old Joe Biden.
      The Vet probably held a job (and paid a lot of taxes) well into his 70’s.

      I don’t think Biden has done an honest day’s work for 30 or 40 years.

        *I skipped my interview at Oregon University Med Center back in 1988 and I’ve never visited the Rose City. Can’t find any reason presently to reconsider ever visiting.

    1. DR Horton, Lennar, KB homes, Toll Brothers along with the smaller builders are ready, willing, and able to put “heads in beds.” Chairman Jay Powell and friends just signaled yesterday that Fed Funds rate will not be increased for years into the future.

      Time to build homes!!!!!! These are jobs which corps cannot “out source.”
      A huge chunk of the jobs do not require an investment in college education.
      We have a capable workforce ready!!!!

      That said, it is uber-liberal NIMBY’s who prevent communities from building enough housing to fix what is truly a crisis in American cities. I watched them at work in the LA megalopolis, and I’m watching them do the same here in Colorado.

      Shameful.

      2. And think of the thousands of homes and businesses that need to be rebuilt due to fire (of one sort or another) in California, Oregon and Washington….
        Needed: Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, sweepers, iron workers, etc…

        I guess I don’t care who builds the home, though my preference would be that home building is seen as a good career choice for a HS/Juco educated American Citizen. Not every young American can be the next code writer, and we likely have enough baristas. (Starbucks, Michael).

        In all fairness, a lot of Asian workers in the US send remittances back to their Asian families. It helps keep millions out of poverty in the Philippines, Viet Nam, Indonesia, etc.
        Likewise, many Middle Eastern countries rely on remittances from their successful family members here in the US. As long as State and Fed taxes (including payroll) were taken out first, they may do whatever they wish with their paycheck.
        (I paid a ton in Work Comp Ins and Federal (and state) Unemployment taxes during my 20 years of self-employment, so I expect these workers/their employers to likewise contribute).

        Last I checked, Mexico was the 11th largest economy in the World. No reason that remittances should be flowing from the US to Mexico. Their Govt should be providing a social welfare network commensurate with the 11th largest economic entity on the globe and not relying on foreign remittances flowing southward.
