Pac-12 Hires George Kliavkoff As Commissioner

The Pac-12 hired who?

George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment & Sports at MGM Resorts, has signed a five-year contract to become the new commissioner.

First things first: It’s pronounced Klēē-ãv-cough.

He has a lot of experience with sports/entertainment, digitial media and cable TV.

This is obviously one of those “built for the future” hires.

He should be well-equipped to deal with the new TV deals. One fear I have is that streaming, which is what everyone is doing now, becomes a key component, which could alienate a lot of Pac-12 fans/viewers.

Kliavkoff obviously knew how to impress the search committee, including USC president Carol Folt. Is that a good thing?

He wasn’t even mentioned as a candidate by Pac-12 insiders. Again, is that a good or bad thing?

The best thing, of course, is that he is not Larry Scott.

Does it matter that he really doesn’t have campus experience?

  1. I like it. This guy sounds like he will pursue all avenues, where as hiring an AD wouldn’t get the conference the skill set needed to navigate the many media options today and in the future. I expect that the conference will have a streaming option, which is a good thing. Many young people, and older people like me, have cut the cable cord. Get a deal with someone like Hulu or Netflix would be great.

  2. But can he play tennis? I’ll bet Vegas is overjoyed. (no really I’ll bet…) I really hope he can fix the PAC 12 channel I pay for it and only watch maybe 3 things a year.

    1. No one here watches the Pac Network except when there’s a USC football game on it —so, once a year is about right.
(Note: As part of his ‘under the table’ agreement with the Pac, George has been given power to terminate —“with extreme prejudice” — Helton’s command).

    1. Folt is partly to blame. She told the Committee, “I don’t even want to be in the room if I’m gonna be hamstrung by opinions from the Pac 12 Athletic Directors…”

    1. His press conference went very well. There was little or no talking around issues. He seemed direct, no nonsense, and expanded only when necessary.

Biggest problem for the Pac12… no recent football or basketball championships.

      2. Well if he actually has a plan, then he’s saying the right thing. If he’s as clueless as his predecessor then it’s just lip service.

  4. We will see. He needs to build the reputation of the PAC 12 as the best conference in the land ,especially football. I he can get the teams equal or better than the sEc, then he can demand the tv rights he wants. This is also on the presidents of the unvversities. If they want the money then they have to get better in football. Dolt, are you listening?

  5. Kliavkoff can begin his rein by making sure SUCC is no longer given a, year in and year out, cupcake Pac-12 FB schedule in hopes SUCC will receive a CFB playoff invitation. F**K SUCC!

If SUCC doesn’t like it, then the bozo’s can exercise their whinny threat to go Independent. The Pac -12 doesn’t need a felony white shoe University or a warm milk and cookies, 5 – 1 FB program that pussy’s out of Bowl game consideration because 2 players were hurt in their humiliating Pac – 12 Championship game defeat.

    2. Just rent,

They play the same amount of conference games as Thug U aka ruinville. They even let ruinville play SC just to let them know what real football is about each year.

  6. He seems like a no BS guy. He is saying all the right things from the start. Focus on revenue sports. Devise strategies for maximizing revenues. Better recruiting throughout the division. Need to win championships in football and basketball.

Step 1 – Meet with Folt and demand that Clay be fired immediately. The prime jewel of the conference cant be mismanaged any longer.

Step 2 – Make sure that USC fires Graham Harrell and gets rid of the air raid offense.
