The Pac-12 hired who?
George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment & Sports at MGM Resorts, has signed a five-year contract to become the new commissioner.
First things first: It’s pronounced Klēē-ãv-cough.
He has a lot of experience with sports/entertainment, digitial media and cable TV.
This is obviously one of those “built for the future” hires.
He should be well-equipped to deal with the new TV deals. One fear I have is that streaming, which is what everyone is doing now, becomes a key component, which could alienate a lot of Pac-12 fans/viewers.
Kliavkoff obviously knew how to impress the search committee, including USC president Carol Folt. Is that a good thing?
He wasn’t even mentioned as a candidate by Pac-12 insiders. Again, is that a good or bad thing?
The best thing, of course, is that he is not Larry Scott.
Does it matter that he really doesn’t have campus experience?
