Happy Fourth Of July

The USC band is playing all day today at Catalina island. There is a golf cart parade at 1 p.m. and a Catalina casino concert at 7:30 p.m. and then pre-and-post fireworks performances at the Wrigley stage.

  • It’s the Fourth of July and that means time to run this wonderful color photo of the fireworks show at the Coliseum in 1964, that even lit up Mudd Hall and the USC campus.

The Mudd Hall Bell Tower was used in the 1923 version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

  1. A different time, and a different city. One that was much better in some ways than today, despite all of the technological advances that has been made since those photos were taken.

Happy 4th Trojans! Baby back ribs on the grill later today here. Salt, jalapeno powder, garlic and onion powders, lime and olive oil marinade.

      1. Read this fast, it’s coming down:

Paul Pelosi’s “attacker” [the one standing at the door with Paul in his underwear] is serving a LIFE SENTENCE in what is basically a “solitary” situation…he will never be heard from again…

Out and out murderers get sentences of 5 years…many are out in 18 months.

Does this seem like something out of “The Man in The Iron Mask”?

  2. A shame the moderators are trampling on our ability to discuss things in a civil manner, on a day we’re supposed to celebrate our freedoms.

      1. KAM: Cowardly Gabby can’t wait to see Helen of Troy portrayed by an ugly black actress in the new DEI film version of The Odyssey. Cowardly Gabby can’t comprehend that  Helen of Troy is known as the woman whose beauty sparked the Trojan War.  Helen of Troy was Greek, specifically from Sparta. Cleopatra was Greek. Homer was Greek. Plato, Socrates and Aristotle, all Greek. But not to PC Hollyweird revisionists and the yentas on The View.

DON: USC used to have a Helen of Troy beauty selected every year.

  3. KAM: It was nice seeing Americans singing patriotic songs while enjoying fireworks displays. It seemed like everybody was acting as one with no divisions

DON: We’ll be back to normal come Monday morning

  4. KAM: I’m not a big fan of soccer but today’s match caught my eye, England at Mexico where in Mexico soccer is life. I hear everywhere in town Mexicans are wearing the team’s colors

DON: It would be great if Mexico wins but England is favored despite playing on a foreign field that is nearly 1 1/2 miles high

KAM: That extreme altitude might get to England by the 2nd half, I give Mexico a chance to finish the game

  7. KAM: You ever notice how poster remarks can be placed out of order, and your comment might appear to be in response to some other post?

DON: Yeah, like you are trying to respond to a poster’s “I love women” by saying “Count me in” but it ends up following some poster’s “Let’s start rooting for ucla” comment
