The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same
I’ve heard Lynn Swann has become more engaged and even more respectful, which some athletic dept. insiders believe is a reaction to the impending arrival of new president Carol Folt. However, this week a USC administrator offered a reminder that changes are coming slowly. “He is still spending a lot of time on the golf simulator (inside Heritage Hall),” the administrator said. The golf simulator … Continue reading The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same
USC Morning Buzz: A Cautionary Story For QB Derby
With a big quarterback decision looming in August, here is a story from 2016 that I have never written but will recount for the benefit of new offensive coordinator Graham Harrell. About two weeks before USC played Alabama in 2016, Clay Helton told his coaching staff Sam Darnold had outperformed Max Browne and would be the starter. We’re moving forward and you’ll see consequences.” This suggest … Continue reading Is NCAA Coming After USC Basketball?
USC Afternoon Questions
Is there any sport where USC is prepared to make a big-time coaching hire? Football? Maybe but historically USC never has made a splash. I have repeated talked about the low level of ambition when hiring coaches under Pat Haden and Lynn Swann. And USC seems poised to raid a small conference for a baseball coach. Oregon goes to the Big Ten. USC goes to … Continue reading USC Afternoon Questions
