Alabama finally named Steve Sarkisian as offensive coordinator. Nick Saban better keep a tight leash there. Meanwhile, Tee Martin was named Tennessee wide receivers coach, with additional titles of assistant head coach and passing game coordinator. Poor guy can never coach quarterbacks despite playing quarterback. Continue reading Former USC Coaches Finally Get Official Titles
I find it a little funny how USC’s game at BYU is viewed as a scheduling blunder. The thought is that USC should schedule more cupcakes because it is playing nine conference games and also plays Notre Dame. You are not supposed to play anyone else competitive to enhance your chances of making the College Football Playoff, according to this theory. I won’t be surprised … Continue reading Beware BYU!
A columnist said this week that USC fans get indignant over Clay Helton but make no sense because, “after you buy out Helton, who do you hire? I don’t think you can get Dabo.” Here’s a quick point on that theory: Helton is a below-average coach. If you hired a competent coach, USC would be much better off. Media people need to read this to … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column
I don’t find it a coincidence USC released a workout video (below) to show how hard they are working out this winter despite lacking a strength coach and criticisms of discipline inside and outside the program. Isn’t it also convenient that one of the players featured is quarterback JT Daniels? He needs some image rehab too after last season and you can bet the USC … Continue reading USC Is Working Hard, Just Ask Them
USC interim president Wanda Austin delivered a state of the university speech yesterday. Here was a quote that caught my attention: “Shared governance means shared engagement and shared accountability.” This makes perfect sense. But let’s apply it to athletics. Is Lynn Swann engaged? Is he accountable to anyone? Is Clay Helton being held accountable? USC has many issues that Austin must focus on as president and … Continue reading USC Wants “Shared Accountability”
A coach from a school interested in a USC player who recently entered the NCAA transfer portal said the coaches were giving less-than-glowing reviews about the player. It shows that while it may be easier than ever for a player to transfer, schools/coaches still have ways to try and affect the process. I asked the coach if he gave much weight to what the USC … Continue reading USC Blind Item Of The Day
