Important Announcement About USC Blog

When I started this blog 29 months ago, it was going to be more of a hobby after covering USC for more than 20 years.

I never imagined it would grow to its current size and attract such a loyal audience.

Well, now it’s time to grow even more. Today, I’m taking the InsideUSC blog to Sports Illustrated. The new address is https://www.si.com/college/usc/

The new USC blog will be the same in many ways but will have much more video, more recruiting and a stronger “community” area for comments. I hope you will join me at the new site for even more USC coverage.

    1. Par for the course, gt —you are SO damn judgmental! Lots of people get upset tummies from eating too much and/or the wrong food….. and sometimes they can’t get to the bathroom fast enough and wind up with a bit of vomit on themselves. [Of course other times people get upset tummies from doing 104 thick lines of meth combined with getting butt fucked 83 times in a row]…..

    1. I’m pretty much in agreement with much of this platform.*
I think I’ve expounded years ago on how my PoliSci and IR professors at USC (classes at the former Von Kleinsmid Center) were raging in the early 1980’s about how all these NATO “allies” were shirking their responsibilities to spend their fair proportion of GDP on National Defense. Each and every President–D or R–has given NATO “allies” a pass until the present President. China simply wishes to steal all of our intellectual property. As tax payers, we all have invested incredibly in the R&D which these private firms monetize. I don’t feel that the American taxpayer should be giving this precious tech to 1.3B corrupt PRC citizens. (When last I checked, over 90% of all software in the PRC was “pirated.”)

Very interested to see how the recent US restrictions on TikTok and WeChat use has produced back-pedaling in China’s SOE’s.

Note: Whomever is getting Trump ready for the debate has to instruct him to respond to EVERY Biden proposal with “Let me explain why that would ruin the economy…”

      2. Michael, it is good to have owns back. I would love to hear why he considers a guy who is less with it than half the population of the country’s assisted living facilities is a “celebration.”

The debates will go the following way: Biden will come out very aggressive, interrupt Trump continuously for the first 10 minutes, and after that, he will forget everything he was told to say. So he will have to talk really fast, and hope that the DNC plants an electronic pulse at the venue that takes out the Sat Comm and the backup equipment.

      3. Very prescient, 67! Few people remember this —but even back when Biden wiped the floor with Paul Ryan, he ran outta gas at the end. He was beginning to show signs of mental exhaustion way back when. I don’t see him being able to stay on pace for 2 hours. Not unless he’s allowed unsupervised bathroom breaks (if you know what I mean). It’s funny that fighters and tennis players have to get tested before matches but a suspect presidential candidate gets to skate.
I’m serious when I say Trump has to repeatedly tie Biden’s proposals to financial disaster for workers, pensioners, small businesses, etc. Debate viewers, like jurors, latch on to clear themes — not 49 clever but unrelated rebuttals.

  4. I’m thinking about starting my own new show….
Think I’ll call it, “Pardon my wonk.”

Hopefully Just Owns and TebowObama will join as guest commentators, though TO would have to tone down the gutterspeak to get us by the censors. HaHa

Anyway, sorry again for getting wonky.

My libtard friends continue to whine, “Science is Real,” “Trust Science,” blah blah blah.
Well here’s the science, mon frere.

    COVID:
Per the United States’ CDC as of Sep 16, 2020:
394 deaths from Covid, age under 25.
(My analysis? All are tragic, and the families affected continue to grieve. The years of life lost–YLL–are horrible.)

59,000,000 Americans under the age of 25.
Death rate from Covid, under age 25: 394/59,000,000=0.0000066
That’s 6 covid deaths per million.

I think we could have played college football in 2020, though possibly there would have been a death from Covid in a NCAA D1 CFB player.

    SUICIDE:
Per US CDC for 2016–last year I have solid stats
6159 deaths from Suicide, age under 25*
(My analysis? All are tragic. I dealt with too much suicide in my 30 years in Medicine. I remember each and every case.)

59,000,000 Americans under the age of 25.
Death rate from suicide, under age 25: 6159/59,000,000=0.00010
    That’s 100 deaths per million

Nobody is talking about teen suicide (but me). I’ve been screaming about this epidemic for a decades. Far more deadly than a respiratory virus for our young Americans.

*Given the stigma assoc with suicide, it it generally believed that these deaths are under-reported across all age cohorts.

    Pardon my wonk.

The left does not follow any science they just want to hurt the economy and blame it on the current administration.
Since you are Mr Stats – can you find any proof that shows hair salons and nail salons in LA County have generated widespread outbreaks of COVID-19 before the 2 shutdowns? I am willing to wager my lifesavings that there is absolutely no proof, zero, zilch.
What I have learned throughout this pandemic is that government non-elected officials have the power to shut down the economy.

I do log on to JohnHopkins’ site and to Govt sites for my stats.
In 2014, in the midst of the Ferguson protests, I logged onto the DOJ.org site to look at violence and murder in America. I was way ahead of the times. I’ll leave it at that…..

I agree with your assertions above, and if you can find another honest gambler willing to wager with you, you will take him/her to the proverbial cleaner. The most perfect proof for your argument can be found at the hair salon frequented by one Nancy d’allesandro Pelosi. Would the 80year old, plastic surgically enhanced Speaker of the House risk her life at a hair salon?

      1. As a neophyte, I cannot discuss any of Justice Ginsburg’s decisions with any degree of credibility–though I know, Michael, that you are very well-versed on most of SCOTUS’ decisions. However, she must have had quite the American experience since her birth in 1933 (or so). Women’s rights, Civil Rights, Environmental Issues, the rise and fall of Communism, the digital age. What an era! I have to respect and admire such a noble human who dedicated her life to public service (while people of far lessor intelligence and valor became rich) during such an incredible time.

I always found it immensely satisfying that Justice Ginsburg’s best friend (on the court, at least) was Justice Antonin Scalia. Really, Ruth? Oh to have been the proverbial fly-on-the-wall at one of their lunches together….

I hope that all of America can celebrate and commemorate a life truly well-lived (even if many disagreed with her decisions)…..before the inevitable political carping that will invariably ensue.

Bourbon —My wife, who was chief of staff to 2 California Supreme Court Justices, met Ruth once —and, like everybody else who ever spent a moment with the Justice , found her to be warm and kind and brilliant. [Her best opinions are dissents —- and you can’t help admiring — not only the legal scholarship— but the artistry that went into composing them. Her last —or next to last —opinion came in the form of the scolding she gave to the far left 9th Circuit for violating appellate principles]!

Michael, it is great to get into SCOTUS issues here (how far we have drifted from “Inside USC Football”, but hey, vacuums get filled) .I thought that Sontamayor’s dissent in the Kansas case involving a sheriff pulling over an unlicensed driver was very much reaching. I am as much for strongly supporting the 4th amendment as the next guy or gal, but her view that her colleagues were “making up their own reasons” goes a bit beyond the pale IMHO.

      2. I just thought of something, 67. Do you think Biden will now say something to the effect of “I love morality. I love it so much. “Today the President tried to exercise his constitutional power to appoint a replacement to the Supreme Court —so that the court wouldn’t wind up deadlocked at 4 to 4 on important election cases. This is just too immoral for me to stand. Everybody knows I’ve spent my career being really moral —so I guess everybody will understand why I can’t be on stage for debates with an immoral person.
Thank you. I’m going back to my basement to be with my moral wife, Jill, and my moral son, Hunter.”

  6. “200,000,000 have died from COVID-19”

What does it say about a guy who chronically and habitually makes grossly mistaken mistakes about key policy issues? For example, he knows he can’t get numbers right. Ever. So he should never cite numbers. But he can’t stop himself from quoting numbers. Biden needs the Cliff Claven (from “Cheers”) electric shock treatment whenever he publicly cites a number. Would aversion therapy work?

    1. Biden’s people need to sit him down and tell him that— whenever he wants to cite a big number of victims of any kind of disaster —-he just say, “a lotta, lotta people” —-and –should lightning strike and be become president —- he should just ask for “a lotta, lotta money” when negotiating international trade deals.
