It was less than a month ago I wrote a Friday notes column with a picture of former USC athletic director Willis O. Hunter that said, “Hunter was athletic director for 32 years (1925-57) at USC but is largely forgotten today, unfortunately. He presided over USC’s transformation into a national championship power in many sports.”
Well, here is what USC social media has posted for its Willis O. Hunter Award. They called him “Willis O’Hunter.”
This is probably the work of a twentysomething social media whiz who never heard of Hunter. And that’s understandable. But there needs to be an adult in the room at USC who has some understanding of history . . . and oversight. That’s largely missing from the athletic dept. today.
Below is a picture of Hunter (right) with USC football coach Jess Hill at the Stork Club in New York City after the Trojans defeated Army in 1951.

Re Pac 12 Administrators —I think publishing their Salaries & Job descriptions would be a LOT less fun than publishing their actual Dailies:
“Offered strategic & logistical advice to members on the subject of strategy, explored new modalities relating to achieving new and better outcomes, brainstormed over conference call with 1 or 2, or perhaps 7, University Presidents, requested follow ups from staff on Pac 12 related subjects [after asking for clarification and delineation of the Term ‘Pac 12’]……”

Really good idea Cal. USC has been an incredibly diverse university in a diverse city for the past 40 years and still finds a way to pay 100 plus DEI administrations salaries in the range of 150,000 to 200,000 a year for life. A waste of money that is passed onto the students . Tuition should be less than $20,000 per year but because of a bloated administration students are paying $60,000 a year. How does that help working class families with gifted children become doctors, lawyers, engineers, ect. Its a scandal but nobody reports on it. Frankly, it is the universities more than the oil companies that are guilty of price gouging. When is Carol Folt or some of these UC Presidents going to testify before the house oversight committee.
