On3 sports is promoting this quote from its interview with Bear Alexander on whether NIL deals influenced his coming to USC. “I’m not gonna say my family necessarily came from money, but we drove a Porsche before (and) I drive a Porsche now. So it’s not really a big role necessarily.” The key word is “necessarily.” The Daily Trojan finally wrote something about getting kicked … Continue reading The Bear Speaks

The College Football Playoff released an example of its expanded 12-team bracket for 2024 today using what a 2022 mock bracket would have looked like. USC, the No. 10 seed, would have played Alabama, the No. 7 seed. How many points would the Crimson Tide have scored in that game? One wrinkle: The semifinal games will be midweek contests to avoid conflicts with NFL games. … Continue reading USC Notes: Alabama Would Have Been Opponent In 2022 Expanded Playoff

OK, the USC offensive line is settled. I wrote my starting defensive line yesterday but this is an easier task because the transfers have taken over. Here is how the offensive line will this season: LT Michael Tarquin (6-5, 310) LG Emmanuel Pregnon (6-6, 318) C Justin Dedich (6-2, 305) RG Jarrett Kingston (6-4, 300) RT Jonah Monheim (6-5, 295) A lot of people who … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Wait Six Games Before Judging Offensive Line

I occassionally retweet USC president Carol Folt, including a couple days ago for a policy speech. So I’m not against her. But this is one of the dumbest tweets I’ve seen recently. Yes, the Lakers won Monday night because Lincoln Riley was at the game. As LeBron James drove for a layup to send the game into overtime, I’m sure he thought, “I’ve got to … Continue reading Dumb USC Tweet Of The Week

Wyoming offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon has committed USC, which means the Trojans have their left guard. This was the spot reserved for Florida-transfer Ethan White, before he decided to no longer play football. There are other linemen you can hear about being improved in the media like Gino Quinones and Mason Murphy but the coaches have penciled in Pregnon as the starting left guard. Continue reading The Left Guard Has Arrived

If USC had a game today, this is probably how the defensive line would look. You could insert Kyon Barrs for Stanley Ta’ufo’ou but it’s not critical because they will rotate. Just as Jack Sullivan, the transfer from Purdue, will play at defensive end. There are other players, like the underrated Tyrone Taleni and Romello Height, who started two games but got hurt, that will … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Who Starts On Defensive Line?
