As New Year’s Day beckons, I’ll highlight some Trojans we lost in 2022. Former USC halfback Ernie Zampese was better known as a successful NFL offensive coordinator. Zampese was a left halfback at USC in 1955-56 and made his mark despite playing with star tailbacks Jon Arnett and C.R. Roberts. In 1956, Zampese was third in rushing (500 yards), second in passing, third in scoring and third in total … Continue reading Remembering Ernie Zampese
Oklahoma State defensivc end Trace Ford is transferring to Oklahoma. Ford had visited USC and is a teammate of new Trojan linebacker Mason Cobb. Did you know it will likely cost more to park than to buy four tickets for the Cotton Bowl? You can get upper concourse seats from as little as $4. Seats in the middle section of AT&T Stadium start at $14. … Continue reading USC Notes: A Transfer Portal Update
USC arrived in Texas and the big question is how motivated the Trojans will be for the game. Caleb Williams seems to want to play in the game, which is a good sign. It’s still hard to imagine USC will be as motivated as Tulane. “We want this game and this week to be reflective of the journey we’ve been on the last 12 months,” … Continue reading Morning Buzz: Is A Motivated USC Team In Texas?
Clay Helton lost a bowl game? Buffalo defeated Georgia Southern, 23-21, in the Camelia Bowl. The loss deprived Helton of a winning season as Georgia Southern fell to 6-7. Somehow, I bet the fans are still fairly happy and much happier than USC fans under Helton. Notre Dame just made an upgrade at QB. Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman intends to enter the NCAA transfer … Continue reading USC Notes: Some Things Rarely Change
USC leaves for the Cotton Bowl today. USC has 7 fewer players in its travel party because of those who entered the transfer portal. That is far less than Pac-12 schools like Arizona (20); Arizona State (19); Stanford (18) and Oregon (17). One reason the number is smaller is how drastically Lincoln Riley overhauled the roster 12 months ago. Anyone flying to Dallas on Southwest … Continue reading Morning Buzz: It’s Travel Day For USC
The Exorcist opened in theaters on this day in 1973. Why does that matter to a USC blog? Because William Peter Blatty was the author of “The Exorcist.” wrote the screenplay for the film and won an Oscar. But as the picture above from 1958 shows, he worked as the chief of the USC News Bureau in the late 1950’s. Blatty was a man of … Continue reading Some Day After Christmas History
