Remembering Two Faces From 1977

Lynn Cain gets overlooked at USC because he shared the backfield with Charles White but he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. And he had a pretty respectable NFL career, gaining 2,309 yards, mostly with the Atlanta Falcons. A lot of people who were fans of Roosevelt High School and East Los Angeles College still remember him too. And here is USC offensive line coach Hudson … Continue reading Remembering Two Faces From 1977

USC Can Play In A Full Stadium

Since Mike Bohn and Co. like to listen to new ideas, here’s my proposal for this fall at the Coliseum. The German soccer team, Borussia Mönchengladbach, found a creative way to make its stadium look better for Saturday’s game against Bayer Leverkusen. The 54,000-seat stadium had about 12,000-cardboard cutouts of actual fans, who paid $20.60 for their likeness at the games. So it makes the … Continue reading USC Can Play In A Full Stadium

USC Saturday Buzz: A Question On Offensive Line Recruiting

USC signed six offensive lineman from the Class of 2020. And it has three commitments for 2021. Eight of the nine are three stars according to Rivals. I’d be less hung up on stars if USC had a history of developing linemen under the current regime. Do stars matter? Offensive tackles Tyron Smith, Matt Kalil and Zach Banner were five stars. Chad Wheeler was a … Continue reading USC Saturday Buzz: A Question On Offensive Line Recruiting

USC Picks Up 13th Commitment

USC received a commitment from offensive tackle Saia Mapakaitolo, a three-star prospect from Alemany High School. What’s funny is when I mentioned Oregon got four-star lineman Jonah Miller, some people said, “USC signed six linemen (in 2020), they don’t need more.” But USC has commitments from three offensive linemen in 2021, all three-star players. At least Tim Drevno is happy. The Trojans are Rolling! LA … Continue reading USC Picks Up 13th Commitment

Hype Up The Hype Video!

This strikes me as a boilerplate hype video. And there is nothing wrong with that. But when USC overhypes the hype-video guys, it creates an expectation that you will be floored. So far, it seems only media sycophants are wowed by this one. If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A Notes Column

When USC athletic director Mike Bohn told Paul Finebaum it was unfortunate how California and West Coast schools were portrayed in wanting to play football, he has a point. People tend to downgrade what comes from the Pac-12 nationally. The problem is flawed messengers. When Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott talks, observers see a guy who never seems to lead on an issue, whether it’s the … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A Notes Column
