An Ironic Topic For USC Basketball
USC basketball assistant Chris Capko is speaking via zoom with coaches in Alabama today and the topic is, “player development within the team concept.” Talk about an ironic topic. I have no problem with Capko and I heard him speak to a crowd of USC boosters this season. But no USC assistant has learned anything on this concept from Andy Enfield. Morning Buzz: USC Leading From Behind On This Issue
Here is what I wrote Friday: “Lane Kiffin has donated $20,000 to those struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. Clay Helton? He’s made a few videos.” Well, with apologies to Yogi Berra, it’s “Déjà vu all over again.” Here is what happened Tuesday: Helton made another video. Meanwhile, Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes, football coach Jonathan Smith and men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle took 7 percent pay … Continue reading Morning Buzz: USC Leading From Behind On This Issue
2004 Rewind: USC vs. Virginia Tech
I remember this trip pretty vividly. A game at the nation’s capital (or 11 miles away) made this a marquee game. USC practiced at the University of Maryland on a really hot, humid day before the game. Terps coach Ralph Friedgen showed up to watch and say hi to Pete Carroll. The attendance at FedEx Field was 91,665 and quite a few USC players who made this … Continue reading 2004 Rewind: USC vs. Virginia Tech
USC Notes: Never Trust All-American Teams

Did the College Sports Madness team, which picked Banner, exist when Smith played? Did the Campus Insiders team, which picked Wheeler, exist when Smith played?Of course USC recognizes those teams for some reason. Meanwhile, Smith is a seven-time Pro … Continue reading USC Notes: Never Trust All-American Teams
USC Morning Buzz: How Long Can Top Coaches Be Immune?
Did you see Washington State football coach Nick Rolovich, basketball coach Kyle Smith, athletic director Pat Chun and school president Kirk Schulz will voluntarily take a 5 percent salary cut through the 2020-21 academic year? They also will not receive any contract bonuses or incentives. Now I fully realize Washington State is a much smaller school than USC. But I still think the time is … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: How Long Can Top Coaches Be Immune?
Josh Christopher Commits To Arizona State
Five-star guard Josh Christopher of Mayfair High School in Lakewood announced he committed to Arizona State tonight. Quite a few USC fans thought Christopher and Ziaire Williams would be a package deal for Andy Enfield. Those fans will be harder to find now that the duo went elsewhere. I can’t really say I care what Christopher did either way, but it was irritating that he … Continue reading Josh Christopher Commits To Arizona State
