USC Saturday Notes: Quick Look At Spring Practice Policy

When USC starts spring practice Tuesday, this will throw a wrench in the plans of some “media.” From the athletic dept.: “Please do not go to the McKay Center tunnel to photograph players as they enter practice; security will remove you and your practice viewing access will be revoked.” That will significantly cut down on twitter pictures/videos, thankfully. Also: How much security do they need when … Continue reading USC Saturday Notes: Quick Look At Spring Practice Policy

Saturday Buzz: USC Roster Full Of “Veteran” Players

It’s probably best not to call USC a young team this season, thanks to the extra year of eligibility granted to players. Defensive lineman Caleb Tremblay is 24. Tailback Vavae Maleapeai is 23. Safety Micah Croom is 23. Offensive lineman Bernard Schirmer is 24. Snapper Damon Johnson is 23. Offensive lineman Frank Martin is 23. Of course, no one compares to punter Ben Griffiths, who … Continue reading Saturday Buzz: USC Roster Full Of “Veteran” Players

USC Notes: The Varsity Blues Scandal Movie Is Out

I have not seen the new Netflix documentary, “Operation Varsity Blues,” but this photo depicting former USC administrator Donna Heinel will no doubt catch the attention of those who worked in the athletic dept. Actress Angela Nicholas plays Heinel. And that’s Matthew Modine as mastermind Rick Singer. But as usual, a beneficiary might be the luckiest man in the country, Clay Helton. Will it be able to afford to buy out Helton under the current atmosphere? And when I say afford, I don’t mean literally. It’s all … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

Notes: A USC-UCLA Sweet 16 Fact

Some people have asked about this: USC and UCLA are in the Sweet 16 together for the third time (2021, 2007, 2001). USC is currently a 2-point favorite over Oregon. Today’s USC newsletter has a funny story about inside reaction to Clay Helton’s comments. Here’s a follow-up to this morning’s post, when I asked if Oregon State was complaining about a lack of respect from … Continue reading Notes: A USC-UCLA Sweet 16 Fact

USC Settles George Tyndall Case For More Than $1.1 Billion

USC is going to pay more than $1.1 billion to patients of former doctor George Tyndall, making it the largest payout for sexual abuse in college history. The $1.1 billion figure includes a payout of $852 million for 710 women suing USC. The university previously agreed to pay $215 million in a federal lawsuit in 2018. Michigan State paid $500 million in the Larry Nasser … Continue reading USC Settles George Tyndall Case For More Than $1.1 Billion
