On This Day In USC History

It was 68 years ago today that the New York Yankees played USC before a standing-room only crowd of around 3,000 at Bovard Field. The game is remembered because Mickey Mantle supposedly hit a 650-foot home run that landed in the middle of the football practice — during a spring practice — that was beyond the baseball outfield. There was never any verification of the … Continue reading On This Day In USC History

Is USC Capable Of Listening To Its Fan Base?

So yesterday I made the observation that Texas has a real athletic director (Chris Del Conte) and USC has a former football player who doesn’t know what he is doing (Lynn Swann). And I included an article from CBS Sports that has a quote from one of Del Conte’s associate athletic directors: “Listen to your fan base.. I feel like the Texas fan has felt … Continue reading Is USC Capable Of Listening To Its Fan Base?

A Word On USC’s New Offense

USC Morning Buzz: Prominent Donor Wants Changes “At The Top”

Attendance Issues Plague USC And Pac-12

I’ve written previously USC’s attendance average last season (55,449) was its lowest since 1987. Well, it turns out the Pac-12 attendance was its lowest since 1982 (46,588), according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports. USC and UCLA played a big role in that especially when the Crosstown Rivalry drew only 57,116, the smallest crowd for the game since 1950. But Dodd also points to how … Continue reading Attendance Issues Plague USC And Pac-12

Coliseum Commission President Wants Stadium To Retain Name

Since USC seems to be the poster child for greed these days, the timing is good for L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn to write a column against changing the name of the Coliseum to “United Airlines Memorial Coliseum.” There is some news here: Hahn, who is president of the Coliseum Commission, said she has been working for months to get USC to consider a compromise … Continue reading Coliseum Commission President Wants Stadium To Retain Name
