USC Morning Buzz: Will Helton Rock The Boat?
A couple USC coaches told me last week not to be surprised if Clay Helton made freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis No. 2 on the depth chart. Slovis had a good practice Tuesday after a rocky scrimmage Saturday but has potential. The question for me is whether Helton would rock the position by actually making his oldest quarterbacks (Jack Sears, Matt Fink) the last choices? Neither … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Will Helton Rock The Boat?
USC Wide Receivers Dominate Practice
USC actually practiced in full pads today like normal teams do. And generally speaking, it was a good day for the QBs. Freshman Kedon Slovis, who has been inconsistent recently, had a deep TD pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a sideline bomb to Velus Jones. Cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart intercepted a JT Daniels pass that was tipped by tight end Erik Krommenhoek. The catch of … Continue reading USC Wide Receivers Dominate Practice
USC Picture Of The Day
Sports Illustrated is running its 150 best college football pictures and around 15 of them are from USC. Above is a picture from the USC-Cal game in 1976 that features Ricky Bell (42) and Anthony Munoz (77). Bernard Tarver is No. 31 and Chris Foote is No. 62. Continue reading USC Picture Of The Day
Bring Your Credit Card To Coliseum
Concessions at the new Coliseum Tower will be open from 2:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Saturday’s scrimmage. But . . . here is a key: CREDIT CARDS ONLY. I hear Jack Del Rio‘s son, Luke, is an assistant coach at Santa Margarita High School. That will give Del Rio an excuse to be close to USC and try to find a way into a potential head-coaching … Continue reading Bring Your Credit Card To Coliseum
Morning Buzz: Can USC Learn Lesson From Rival?
Did you see what happened at UCLA practice? Chip Kelly stopped the practice and made the players change from shorts and jerseys to full pads to pick up the intensity. Cany ou imagine Clay Helton doing that? What is perplexing is that after the daily videos about how great the strength-and-conditioning program is at USC, 14 percent of the roster either missed or was limited … Continue reading Morning Buzz: Can USC Learn Lesson From Rival?
USC Practices In Shorts (Again)
Another shorts and shirts practice is over. After a day off. That means 2 of the first 9 practices were full pads. Is this the culture change Clay Helton referred to at Pac-12 media day? Safety Talanoa Hufanga intercepted two passes. Both were thrown by Matt Fink. Jack Sears threw a 99-yard TD pass to Devon Williams. Adonis Otey, who gave up 2 long TD … Continue reading USC Practices In Shorts (Again)
