PFF Is At It Again!
I find myself rarely agreeing with Pro Football Focus rankings. They list Calen Bullock as the top returning safety in the country. I said a year ago Bullock was a rising player at USC and would be a key part of the defense. But top safety in the country? Did PFF see the tackling in the final two games of the season (example below)? It’s … Continue reading PFF Is At It Again!
USC Morning Buzz: Saturday Column Supplement
Two months ago, I wrote about an episode of the TV show “Emergency” that centered around the 1975 USC-Stanford game. I finally watched the 1976 episode, “The Game” closely and it’s a great informercial for USC football. Fight On and Conquest are played several times. There are multiple scenes of Richard Saukko getting aboard Traveler and riding him through the Coliseum, although it’s definitely not … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Saturday Column Supplement
RIP, BLVD!
BLVD, the USC-run NIL collective, is no longer in existence. And frankly, good riddance. The partnership with the media agency Stay Doubted always seemed questionable and what did it really accomplish? Caleb Williams got his deals himself and Jordan Addison was the Biletnikoff Award winner when he transferred. The rank-and-file players didn’t see a lot. The donors who funded BLVD will continue to have an … Continue reading RIP, BLVD!

Mater Dei Hires A New Coach
Mater Dei has hired Frank McManus as its new football coach. McManus is a long-time assistant (16 seasons) and coached defensive backs the past seven seasons. Former USC/Mater Dei players Lenny Vandermade and Khaled Holmes were named as candidates for the job. The new coach is significant to USC because of its recruiting ties to Mater Dei. Here’s a statement from former Mater Dei coach … Continue reading Mater Dei Hires A New Coach
Eric Gentry Undergoing Surgery
USC linebacker Eric Gentry is undergoing ankle surgery today, which means that high-ankle sprain injury he suffered vs. Utah never really healed properly. Gentry was USC’s best linebacker last season but missed three games after hurting his ankle in the first Utah game. He returned for the final three games but didn’t appear 100 percent. Gentry still nearly led USC in tackles despite the missed … Continue reading Eric Gentry Undergoing Surgery
