USC is tied with UCLA in the Pac-12 basketball standings. UCLA! This is why you cannot have Clay Helton and Andy Enfield lead programs. They are perennial underachievers. Helton is a figurehead with no power. He lets Graham Harrell and Todd Orlando handle the X’s and O’s. Enfield’s problem is he lets two coaches bring in the talent (Jason Hart, Eric Mobley) but there is … Continue reading University Of Shaky Coaches
A few extra infuriating thoughts on USC basketball: USC’s big victory in the Pac-12 is over Stanford, which was improbable and the Cardinal are likely just an NIT team. Andy Enfield is 14-34 in February at USC. The business end of the season. Can USC handle a full-court press? Does Enfield practice against it? Exactly who does Enfield outcoach in Pac-12 games? Continue reading Maybe We Should Call Him Andy Enfraud
USC’s awful loss to Arizona State last night once again serves as a great reminder of the predicament Lynn Swann has left USC in at the moment. He tied up Clay Helton to a long-term contract extension with no buyout. He tied up Andy Enfield to a long-term contract extension with no buyout. And now USC is stuck with two mediocre coaches. Now maybe there … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Lynn Swann’s Parting Gift
Whenever I criticized Andy Enfield last year, the rebuttal was always the same: But he is bringing in a great recruiting class! The talented recruits are here but is the team substantially different? Enfield teams cannot protect leads, play smart in crunch time or offer any type of consistency in the final minutes. Arizona State went more than 11 minutes without a field in the … Continue reading Thanks, Enfield! (Updated)
Florida and Cal have just agreed to play in 2026 and 2027. In November, Florida agreed to play Arizona State in 2028 and 2031. It’s not every day an SEC team agrees to play home-and-home games with Pac-12 teams but the Gators are apparently hungry for West Coast series. Mike Bohn had just started when the Florida-ASU series was announced but it is disappointing he … Continue reading When Will USC Call Florida?
Clay Helton said USC’s recruiting class was not “sexy” because it had so many linemen. But isn’t the real issue that it did not have a quarterback, tailback, linebacker or defensive back? But USC would have sacrificed five recruits for linebacker Justin Flowe. It would have found room for defensive back Darion Green-Warren, quarterback Bryce Young, wide receiver Kris Hutson or defensive back Dwight McGlothern. … Continue reading USC Recruiting Class Wasn’t “Sexy” For A Reason
