Let’s take my mind off USC basketball. Who remembers Woody and Eddy’s in San Marino? It was on the Huntington Drive and San Gabriel Blvd. In 1957, a deputy and robber were killed in a shootout there. How about Johnnie’s Pastrami (1952) in Culver City? It’s still there. Chronis Famous Sandwich Ship (1945) in East Los Angeles Tony’s on the Pier (1952) in Redondo Beach. … Continue reading Time For A Restaurant Break
Normally, a loss like Friday’s 68-66 thriller to Miami would gnaw at me for a long time. There’s an awful feeling when you fly somewhere and less than 24 hours later you’re done while other teams keep playing. But the whole week I kind of expected USC to lose this game. I held my tongue for most of the season while USC racked up victories … Continue reading USC Saturday Buzz: How Is Your NCAA Hangover?
Great trip to Greenville! The fan boys wanted to crow about the school-record 26 victories. A false accomplishment with an easy schedule. Poor foul by Ethan Anderson with three seconds left with the push Charlie Moore and give two free throws with 3 seconds left. How crucial was that out-of-bounds call? Looks like a nail-biter of a finish. Drew Peterson and Isaiah Wong each have four fouls with 9:36 … Continue reading USC-Miami Live Blog
Who will win when USC plays Miami today in the NCAA Tournament? It all depends on what you think of the Hurricanes? I’ve made it clear what I think of Andy Enfield, so when USC gets into the tournament, its best chance is to either overwhelm a team with its talent (Drake), hope the team is overrated (Kansas) or lays an egg (Oregon). That sums … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column
Who had Richmond over Iowa in their NCAA brackets? Andy Enfield said today guards Reese Dixon-Waters (groin) and Isaiah White (wrist) are still day-to-day. “Reese is a lot better now than he was last week,” Enfield said. “We missed his outside shooting and his ball-handling, but we’re hopeful he’ll be ready tomorrow. Isaiah White as well, but we’re not sure, it’s day to day.” Miami … Continue reading USC-Miami Ready For Matchup
